An OYGF Introduction: GRANT

Grant Peyton is a 16 year old producer grinding around Orlando. 16 years old, when you were busy trying to get your parents to drop you off at the mall after your orthodontist appointment, Grant here, is beginning to implant himself into the beat scene. Discovering the genre only after being roped into making some beats for a friend to rap off of, he’s already given us a 6 song album ‘reMIXTAPE’ and now a spot on the OYGF bill. Orange You Glad Music Fest

Start you migrations! Orange You Glad Music Fest is back in Orlando on March 8-11, preshow on the 7th. The city will be alive with music makers and lovers alike, where will you be? The festival is reigning in acts such as The Cults, Tennis, Everything Is Terrible, Grimes, Born Gold and a million other acts (maybe a little less than a million) you wish you could see in person. Who else will be there in person? Coquette Waves! We will be converging upon that city to celebrate these days of auditory bliss with you!

OYGF is intent on sampling you to the culture that is Orlando. With artists yielded from their very backyards that wont stay there for long, to acts you’ve heard your little sister singing along to on the radio. OYGF is also highlighting the facets of this budding community (centered on one portion of the city per night) with showcases being held in local venues, coffeehouses, record stores,pubs and probably anywhere in between. The spaces in between such locations will be filled with local vendors, caterers, and artists.

CW is simply in love with the gameplan for this event, and we want you to feel it too! We’ll be highlighting the many acts and attractions that you can catch that week/weekend right here! If you’re not already dying to go, that means you probably have the personality of my rug (which is cold and soaked in puppy urine) and if that’s the case, you’re more than welcome to stay home. But if you’re reading Coquette Waves, its a given that you’re probably pretty rad. So you’ve still got time to clear your calendar for those days (sick days?) and spend these days with real good music and real good people. A weekend pass is $30, c’mon, you can practically pay that in quarters.

Indiana has brought us many things. The first goldfish farm, bearberry (not burberry), David Letterman, and now this; Kam Kama. This jumpy little five-piece is swell, when they take their post-punk songs and chill them down into a whining guitar string its smile-inducing. @magneticband Before actually listening to Magnetic Island’s music, I went on their Facebook and saw Alyse from EULA had already liked the page. That was an instant seller. Let’s face it, who doesn’t like making little connections?

Magnetic Island is a Brooklyn rock experimental band. They’re fuzzy and weird, kind of like a vintage stuffed animal from you’re neighbor’s garage sale. You know, that crazy old but extremely handsome man next door. From their self titled debut album, “The Space” is a dissonant banger with amped guitars and a steady chant. The albums reminds us of something your neighbor listened to during his confused teenage years. We love it. Take a visit to their bandcamp for more garage jams.

@madamtrashy Beautiful girls, handsome men, dirty dancing and trashy makeup, these are the visual elements in “Book of Dead”. As if their band name doesn’t already stimulate inappropriate thoughts, Brooklyn’s Madam Trashy is everything you don’t want your mothers listening to. They are rock and roll to the filthiest degree.

Good Evening! Are you looking for something to enlighten your ears with? Tonight’s offering is from an indie rock/punk/alternative band, The Active Set. Their music is a demonstration of 4 assembled men, exploring the highs and lows of captivating soundscapes. These LA boys just released an album titled 11. At times, they sound like The Cribs and at times, they sound like a bizarre punk meets chillwave combination. Needless to say, we have no complaints. You can get the album from their bandcamp. I chose to post “Bedtime Stories” because, well, it’s kind of that time of the night. Enjoy!

Who’s ready for some sloppy american rock? Something your dad would nod in approval too. Welcome The Woolly Bushmen with Look What You’re Doing To Me.

They channel 50s 60s rock with such ease its almost time traveling. The song in itself is a joy. Every girl wants a song like this to be about them. I for one know a few people I would like to email this to reading, “this song is dedicated to you dedicating this song to me” haha. And now I have to wait 4 weeks to see them at Orlando’s Orange You Glad Festival. Will I see you there too? If you mention Coquette Waves i’ll let you buy me a drink.

February Waves [Free Music Playlist]:

This is something I’ve never done before so the music selections are a few of my favorites rather than “you have to check this secret bedroom music maker!”. It’s definitely a compilation of electronic sounds. Perhaps, experimental should be the category of Coquette Wave’s FIRST playlist. Please feel free to give us your thoughts because we’d love to hear them and whether we should keep this going, as a monthly routine.

Innitially, there were 21 songs because today is/was February 1st but some tracks had downloading problems. I don’t have the patience to wait for the correct verifications so here are 13.

Artists include Oberhofer, MAUSI, Black Dice, oOoOO, Trust, XXYYXX, Abadabad, No Ceremony, Young Magic, Pictureplane, Slow Magic, Grimes … you know, the whole gang.
